Windows®CE5.0 on the DaVinci™

The Windows® CE BSP download for DM644x EVM is a source code package. You’ll need a Microsoft Platform Builder for Windows® CE 5.0 (ARMV4I Architecture) installation to build this package. This is a free un-supported download.

Host Requirements
The following are installation requirements for the DAVINCI based DM644x DVEVM BSP.
All requirements are for the host machine unless otherwise noted.  500 MHz Pentium II processor or higher; 1 GHz recommended.

  •  Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 2 or Windows XP Professional
  •  256 MB of RAM
  •  Microsoft Platform Builder for Windows CE 5.0 (ARMV4I Architecture)
  •  250 MB of free disk space
  •  At least 300 MB of additional disk space to build the image
  •  Standard RS232 serial port for loader communications
  •  Any Ethernet adapter for the host platform to support Ethernet download/debug/retail connectivity (optional).
     A local area network (LAN) hub is recommended.

NOTE:
In order to create custom configurations with additional components, it is recommended that a minimum of 1 GB free hard disk space be reserved.

Installation Instructions
The instructions below give the user's a head-start in using the BSP and the work-space provided with the BSP release. The users can follow this step-by-step sequence to get started. For detailed instructions please refer to the relevant sections of the Quick Start Guide .

  •  Install the Windows CE 5.0 Platform Builder IDE along with all the patches. The list of patches is illustrated in ‘BSP Build
     Requirements’.
  •  Install the Code Composer Studio 3.2 (or later) along with appropriate drivers for Emulator.
  •  Install the BSP release. The steps for installing the BSP are illustrated in ‘Installing the BSP’.
  •  Program the NOR Flash with the Boot-loader. The procedure for programming the boot-loader into the flash is illustrated in
     ‘Flashing Boot-Loader’.
  •  Build the sample workspace. The steps involved in building the sample workspace is illustrated in ‘Building Sample Workspace’.
  •  Prepare the board for download by connecting the required peripherals to the board. The various peripherals that
     are required to be connected to successfully exercise the sample applications are described in ‘Board peripheral connections’.
  •  Download the OS image into the board over Ethernet. The procedure for the same is illustrated in ‘Downloading OS Image’.
  •  Exercise the sample applications in the image. The various sample application and their usage is described in
     ‘Executing Sample applications’.
