From The CEO's Desk

Dear Customer,Anees

The last quarter has been quiet eventful with several developments within the organization. One of the key changes has been the restructuring of our Defense SBU for renewed focus on our Systems Engineering and Design services offerings. We believe the new structure will help us to better streamline our delivery by having a single point of contact resulting in increased accountability.

Mistral has been working with several prestigious defense organizations since its inception. It is a privilege for us to be significantly involved in most of the radar programs being initiated by the DRDO. These include the FLR, MPR, LLTR and PR for AEW&C. Our expertise in hardware design, software development and systems engineering ensures complete end-to-end solutions for specialized defense applications including radar systems and applications. We are continuously involved in R&D that can help us deliver more
value to our customers.

As mentioned in our previous newsletter, RF based solutions continues to be our focus and in this issue we introduce you to our latest RF based solution, the C-Band Synthesizer, designed to provide all the oscillator requirements for a C-Band Radar System.

We are also excited to offer the S/DMV-1908 Single Board Computer from Curtiss-Wright. The S/DMV-1908 is a low cost, high performance technology insertion SBC which will be the perfect replacement for older SBCs. Further details on both these products are available in the newsletter. With several exciting projects in the pipeline, our team at Mistral is geared up to meet the challenges and opportunities that will come our way in the next few months.

I end this note by reiterating the fact that Mistral is continuously striving to
offer world class quality products and services to better serve our customer needs. Thank you again for all the faith and support.

Sincerely,

New Products
C-Band Synthesizer

The C-Band Synthesizer from Mistral is designed to provide all the oscillator requirements for a C-Band Radar system using DDS (Direct Digital Synthesis) techniques.

The system is supported by an FPGA based Digital Waveform generator capable of generating Radar waveforms at IF level. With the power supply modules built into the system, the entire unit is housed in a self-contained rack based enclosure, with connector for 28V input power.

The C-Band Synthesizer is targeted for C-Band RADAR applications. The solution can be extended to similar applications in other bands like L-Band, S-Band and X-Band. The system can be modified to suit any frequency band of interest with customized output power level to suit application requirements.

S/DMV- 1908 SBC from Curtiss- Wright

S/DMV-1908 is a low-cost, high performance technology insertion Single Board Computer (SBC) from Curtiss-Wright. The S/DMV-1908 is a perfect replacement for older SBCs as it utilizes advanced quad-core CPU and supports Intel’s latest mobile processor technology.

S/DMV-1908 is an ideal SBC for handling applications with demanding storage, data logging and sensor processing requirements. The S/DMV-1908 includes dual X/PMC PMC sites and supports a host of standard I/O including Gigabit Ethernet, RS232/422, GPIO, DVI, SATA, USB, and Audio. In addition to adapting to Curtiss-Wright’s own legacy VME SBCs, the S/DMV-1908 is also designed to replace many of the market’s other legacy VME SBCs.

Connext Micro 2.2.2 from RTI

Connext™ Micro provides a small-footprint modular messaging solution for resource-limited devices that have minimal memory, Flash, CPU power or no operating system. By abstracting out low-level networking and communication details and providing a flexible integration framework, Connext Micro minimizes the amount of device or application specific code that has to be created and reduces development costs.

Connext Micro 2.2.2 adds Android as a newly supported platform, using the Android NDK with C language support. The bundle includes binaries for Android NDK, revision 8d on ARM7.

Connext Micro satisfies the demanding real-time performance requirements, stringent resource constraints, and certification processes required by avionics and medical systems.

Radar based Air Surveillance System: Case Study from Mistral Solutions

The Radar based Air Surveillance System (RASS) is a radar sub-system providing resources for Radar Signal
Processing, Radar Data Processing, Radar Controller Functions and Radar Data Recording.

The Case Study highlights Mistral’s expertise in the architecture and design of radar sub-system to meet the requirements of input /output signals, communication Links, processing capability and data transfer capability.

Sandy Bridge vs. Ivy Bridge: Comparison by Curtiss-Wright Controls

Sandy Bridge was introduced by Intel in 2011 as the first of its new family of Core® i7x86 Quad-core processors. Sandy Bridge was rapidly embraced in the rugged embedded COTS market for use in SBC and DSP modules designed for use in compute intensive Defense and Aerospace applications. 15 months later, Intel introduced the Ivy Bridge processor. This Application note by Curtiss-Wright Controls is a COTS perspective comparison between the two processors.

System Build and Custom Engineering to meet Rugged Military standards: Technical Article by Srikanth B N
of Mistral Solutions

While building systems to meet Ruggedness standards of Military applications, special build methods need to be adopted at every stage and the start to this is at the design stage itself. This ensures the elimination of risks of
the system not meeting ruggedness levels as mandated by the Military standards and the end use. This article addresses the top level details which need to be considered and implemented during the design stage, prior to the commencement of the system build. The emphasis here is on the mechanical and electrical integration and
not on specific hardware/software configurations.

SoftScan Radar Scan Conversion Package: Video Demo by Curtiss-Wright Controls

SoftScan is an embedded computing radar product that provides ultra-high radar scan-conversion performance using unique GPU accelerated algorithms. SoftScan can provide unrivalled scan conversion performance with minimal CPU utilization.

The video link below demonstrates SoftScan, running on a mid-range personal computer to display the zooming, panning, and multi-windowing capabilities. A local RVP server streams video to the SoftScan application which converts the radar video.
