From The Chairman's Desk

Dear Customer,

We’ve had an eventful last quarter go by with a host of interesting activities. One of the key developments has been the restructuring of our Defense SBU for renewed focus on our varied Customer Programs and for furthering our many Product Development initiatives. We believe the new set up will help us address our customers challenging requirements, keeping abreast with quality standards and delivery schedules.

India made a major breakthrough in the field of avionics by taking delivery of the first Embraer 145 Airborne Early Warning and Control Aircraft, built with Indian technology. The Embraer has been commissioned for the prestigious Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) project by DRDO's Bangalore-based Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS). Mistral is proud to be a technology partner to CABS for this prestigious program. We would like to extend our best wishes to the entire team working on the project as they set out to architect a significant era in India’s Aerial Security.

India continues to be one of the largest global military spenders with a significant defense procurement budget in Asia. Driving this spending is homeland security, border protection, modernization of the country’s defense capabilities, and most importantly, India’s economic growth. However, recent times have emphasized on the need for the Government and industry to jointly work to create safe indigenous systems and technologies for the defense sector. This will enable us to safe guard our interest and reduce dependencies on foreign partners. We are privileged to be working with some of the key Defense Labs across the country in furthering this initiative.

Mistral and Esterel Technologies hosted a seminar on ARINC 661 compliant Safety Critical Systems Development with DO-178B/C certification. It was a very well attended by Industry participants and we look forward to organizing more such events in the future.

I would like to take a moment to remember Padma Shri. Dr. R.P. Shenoy, former Director of LRDE, who passed away last August. A pioneer in the field of radar technology, Dr.Shenoy will be sorely missed. His relentless contributions to the development and growth of radar technology in India will serve as a guiding milestone for generations of scientists to come.

We have an exciting and festive season ahead of us, hope it brings forth the very best of times for all of us.

Sincerely,

Anees Ahmed
Chairman

FM Telemetry Transmitter Module from Mistral

The FM Telemetry Transmitter Module from Mistral is a one-watt, miniature, phase-locked FM transmitter that is ideally suited for rugged telemetry transmitter applications. Data rates of up to 14 Mbps (Bi-phase Linear) have been successfully transmitted and received using this module.

The Transmitter contains a shock hardened crystal oscillator with compact Phase Lock Loop synthesizer. The module requires a single, regulated supply voltage of 28V. The FM Transmitter has a fully matched 50ohm output network. The user can adjust frequencies in step size of 100KHz through a Graphical User Interface.

When fully encapsulated, the module can easily survive temperature range of -40 to +85° C, high vibration and shock upto 250G. The product is 100% RF tested to ensure compliance to the performance specifications mentioned below.

MPMC-9105 from Curtiss Wright

The MPMC-9105 Versatile Mission Computer (VMC) is one of the smallest members of Curtiss Wright’s Integrated Subsystems family of Application Ready COTS Systems and is designed specifically for vetronic and avionics requirements providing a rich set of IO coupled to the latest Intel dual and quadcore processors and complemented by up to four SSDs.

Packaged in a slim, ultra compact form factor, the MPMC-9105 VMC integrated system provides the optimum packaging demanded by modern vetronic and avionics computers and is well suited for both low power systems to high-performance computing solutions.

RTI DDS use in SAAB 9LV Naval combat management systems - Video

RTI drove creation of the DDS standard and has been the definitive market leader since its adoption. First with support for both the DDS Application Programming Interface (API) and DDS-RTPS wire interoperability protocol, Connext DDS is proven in hundreds of unique product designs. More than 350,000 copies are deployed today.

The video shows a complete naval command and control product line that uses RTI Connext DDS as its communication backbone. Over 100 developers at SAAB use RTI products to develop the 9LV product line.

Integrating System and Software Engineering for Certifiable Avionics Applications : Whitepaper from Esterel Technologies

Avionics systems are complex systems that integrate hardware, communication media, have many interactions with other subsystems within or outside of the aircraft, and for the system discussed in this presentation, integrate software that must be developed according to DO-178B guidelines. System engineering and software engineering are two engineering disciplines that are historically handled by teams with different cultures. When their engineering processes are supported by or use different, incompatible tools, this often leads to difficult collaboration, with at some point redundant information, and inconsistencies.

This paper introduces a solution, based on standards, SysML for system modeling and on the renowned SCADE Suite® product from Esterel Technologies for the development of DO-178B certified software components.

Satellite-based SCADA System : Case Study from Mistral

Supervisory systems have revolutionized the industrial automation scenario all over the world. Almost all critical industrial infrastructure and processes are managed remotely from central control rooms, using computers and communications networks. One such industrial control system is SCADA; an acronym for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. The flow of gas and oil through pipes, management of a power grid, processing and distribution of water, operation of chemical plants, and the signaling network for railways, all use various forms of SCADA technology.

This case study highlights Mistral's expertise in designing the software for a satellite-based SCADA system used for the control and monitoring of sub-stations and power-grids.
