Dear Customer,Anees

Another eventful quarter has come to a close with several interesting developments observed in the market. One such development is the launch of Samsung’s Octa-core processor. This ARM-based SOC, unlike the existing octa-cores available in the market will utilize all eight of its processor cores using a solution they refer to as ‘Heterogeneous Multi-processing’. Touted to lead to better optimized efficiency for mobile applications, the new octa-core processor will be available to customers in the fourth quarter.

It is also interesting to see that embedded product developers are now bringing out designs based on technologies other than ARM. Having a wider range of embedded platforms to choose from, designs are getting more competitive in terms of processor performance, power consumption and price. Intel’s new Quark octa-core processor is supposed to be a step towards a new ARM-like foundry model which is supposed to be 1/5th the size of the Atom SoC, drawing a tenth the power. Intel’s Quark is meant to run on wearable devices like smart watches and other wearable gadgets rather than on smartphones and tablets. This is indeed an exciting time for the embedded technology marketplace with interesting developments taking place every moment. We look forward to working with technology and product leaders, partnering with them to bring out trend setting devices into the market.

The Embedded market is evolving rapidly with systems becoming more sophisticated and increasingly integrated with the Internet of things (IoT). According to a recent report, more than 50 billion devices will be connected to the Internet of Things by 2020. At the recent Electronics Rocks Conference in Bangalore, our CTO, Rajeev spoke about the trends in Wearable Technology –an area in which Mistral has been working on for more than five years in association with leading industry players.

This issue of Infowaves brings to you case studies and videos in line with the latest technological trends that will be of interest to you which can help enhance your product development. Read about our expertise in providing custom design services on Intel’s Atom range of SoCs, offerings on Made for iPod (MFi) devices and RTM-BOCRT for Keystone II EVMs.

We thank you for your continued patronage and association. Please feel free to write to us with any feedbacks or suggestions. I end this note congratulating one of our ex-employees, Saikat Dey, who has risen in his career to become the CEO of Severstal, one of the largest steel companies in USA. We are proud of him.

Sincerely,

Mistral helps customers develop hardware, related software integration and can work with non-OS/micro-kernel devices to integrate communication with Apple Devices.

Intel ATOM Processor Expertise

Intel‘s Atom™ SoC is a 32nm System on a Chip product targeted for tablet and tablet convertible platforms.
The Atom™ SoC has a CPU speed of up to 2.0GHz and offers a GPU PowerVR SGX 545 @ 533 MHz.

Mistral provides custom design services on Intel’s Atom range of processors and SoCs. These include Product Design, Hardware Design, BSP & Firmware, Embedded Applications, Design for Manufacturability, Production Support Services, Product Lifecycle Support and Verification & Validation.

Mistral also develops custom reference designs, add-on modules and device drivers for development platforms on Intel ATOM platforms enabling various interfaces on the device. Product Developers can prototype and test new features on the Intel ATOM based development platform before building a custom form factor design of the product.

Rear Transition Module – Break Out Card (RTM-BOCRT) for Keystone II EVMs

The Rear-transition Module – Break-out Card (RTM-BOCRT) from Mistral is an eight layer plug-in module for the Keystone II family of EVMs starting with the TCIEVMK2X and the EVMK2H EVMs showcasing the Multicore DSP+ARM KeyStone II System-on-Chips from Texas Instruments. The TCIEVMK2X and EVMK2HX are double wide AMC form factor cards which provide Hyperlink, AIF2, and XFI interfaces over the AMC.4 μTCA connector.

The RTM-BOC provides high-speed digital data interface to the RTM connector (AMC.4 μTCA) for validating the 10GigE, Hyperlink, and AIF2 subsystems of the Keystone II SOC on the EVMs. In addition, the RTM BOC contains four Gigabit Ethernet ports with PHY to support the SGMII lanes on future EVMs through RTM connector.

The RTM BOC primarily consists of Retimer chip for 10G Ethernet, Quad port Ethernet PHY for 1G Ethernet and external interfacing connectors.
