FAQ - General

1. Where can I find the schematics and Hardware reference manual for 2430 OSK? These documents are available from TI under NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement). Please contact omap@mistralsolutions.com for further assistance. 2. Where can I find the console command reference and 2430 OSK user guide document in the CD? The console command reference “HOW TO” documents and 2430 OSK user guide documents are available in the following path in CD. HOW TO: \\MSOSK_2430\LinuxBSP\developer\docs User Manual: \\MSOSK_2430\Windows\Documents Please refer the “readme.pdf” document in the CD for more details. 3. Where can I find the CCS setup procedure guide? This document is not a part of the OSK deliverables. The CCS setup procedure document can be freely downloaded from the following TI weblink. http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/techdocsabstract.tsp?abstractName=spru509h 4. Do I get technical support from Mistral for OSK2430? 2 hours of installation technical support through E-Mail will be provided at no additional cost for OSK2430. Extra technical support will be available at an additional cost. Please contact support@mistralsolutions.com for further assistance 5. Are there any royalties to pay for products based on the kit? No. There is no royalty pay for the OSK or for the use of the design in your own designs. In the future there will be additional components that may or may not include additional royalties. Please contact support@mistralsolutions.com if you are not sure. 6. What “.obj” files are provided along with the OSK Kit? No object files are provided along with the kit. 7. Does the starter kit include schematics and BOM? Schematics will be available after signing Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with TI. Please contact support@mistralsolutions.com for further assistance. BOM will not be a part of delivery. 8 Is USB Host functionality tested on the OMAP2EVM? If yes, what is the procedure for testing? USB Host functionality is tested on the OMAP2EVM using the OTG port available on the OMAP2EVM. The information sheet providing the procedure for testing USB Host functionality on the OMAP2EVM is available under the Documentation and Software for OMAP2530 EVM

FAQ - Hardware Features
1.	What are the features of 2430 OSK?
The features of 2430 OSK are: 3.7” QVGA/VGA LCD module with Touch screen support Composite Video – TV out interface Digital Visual Interface (DVI) 10/100 Mbps Ethernet interface High Speed USB OTG interface through ISP1504 philips transceiver/TWL4030 One SD/MMC (#1) interface One I2C (#1) interface for TWL4030 communication Stereo Audio interface - Auxiliary IN and Headset OUT 4x4 Keypad interface TWL4030 based Battery charger interface HDQ-1 wire Battery management interface Three UART ports (Multiplexed on 2 RS232 connectors) JTAG debug interface General purpose expansion connector The above list details only the hardware features of the 2430 OSK unit. 2.	What are the interfaces available on 2430 OSK expansion connector?
The following interfaces are brought out on the 2430 OSK expansion connector for future enhancement. General Purpose Memory Controller (GPMC) interface supporting chip select spaces: CS0, CS1, CS2, CS7 Camera interface - 12 bit parallel interface and 4 wire serial interface One I2C interfaces Two UART interfaces Two McBSP interfaces One McSPI interface Two SD/MMC interfaces System control signals General Purpose IO signals from processor Bluetooth interface from TWL4030 ADC channels from TWL4030 Please refer MS_2430OSK_UM.pdf document for more detailed information on expansion connector
3.	There are two DC jacks on the 2430 OSK board. Which one should I use for powering the OSK?
The 2430 OSK has two DC jacks namely P19 and P22. Use P19 for powering the OSK unit using the external power adaptor supplied by Mistral. P22 jack is for powering the battery charger circuitry. Please note that TWL4030 based Battery charging interface is not tested in the current release.
4.	How do I re-boot the OSK unit?
The 2430 OSK unit can be re-booted by pressing the reset pushbutton switch S2 on the board.
5.	There are a lot of open headers J2, J3, J5 and J6 on the board. What is the purpose of these headers?
The headers J2, J3, J5 and J6 can be used to measure the power consumption of various sections on the 2430 OSK board. For additional information please refer 2430 OSK schematics* and Hardware reference manual*. Note: *Manuals are available from TI after NDA
6.	2430 OSK has a S-Video connector P14 on the board. How do I use it?
The S-Video interface is not supported in 2430 OSK unit. The S-Video connector P14 is provided on the main board for future compatibility with OMAP 3430 processor module.
7.	Can I remove the power and processor modules for debugging?
Not recommended. Please note that frequent removal and insertion of the Power Module and the Processor Module may reduce the life span of the connectors.
8.	Does 2430 OSK support TWL4030 based USB interface?
No. TWL4030 based high speed USB OTG interface is not supported in 2430 OSK.
9.	Does 2430 OSK support High speed USB OTG interface?
2430 OSK supports high speed USB OTG interface using an external Philips transceiver ISP1504. Please note that this interface is not tested in the current release. Please visit our website for updates on the testing and availability of this driver.
10.	How many SD/MMC slots are supported by 2430 OSK?
2430 OSK supports one SD/MMC slot on-board and one SD/MMC interface on the expansion connector for future use.Please note that the SD/MMC interface is not tested in the current release.Please visit our website for updates on the testing and availability of this driver
11.	Does 2430 OSK support Battery charging?
2430 OSK supports TWL4030 based battery charging. Please note that the Battery charging functionality is not tested in the current release. Please visit our website for updates on the testing and availability of this driver.
12.	Does 2430 OSK support DVI?
2430 OSK supports Digital Visual Interface and is not tested in the current release. Please visit our website for updates on the testing and availability of this driver.
13.	Does Mistral support any hardware plug-in modules for 2430 OSK?
No plug-in HW modules are currently available for the 2430 OSK. Plug-in modules will be developed only on a need basis for a specific customer. Likely peripherals on this plug-in board could be camera, speaker, microphone, IRDA, any other custom peripheral that can be supported by 2430 OSK. 14.	The OMAP2530 EVM quick start guide (QSG) shows USB Boot settings for SW4, can the OMAP2530 EVM board be booted via USB?
The OMAP2530 EVM Hardware supports USB Booting with the switch settings mentioned in the QSG. However, there is no software support for USB booting in the current version of the software. Support for USB booting will be added in the future releases of software. Customers willing to try USB booting with their custom software can use the information available in the QSG for this purpose.
15.	What are the Hardware modifications required for enabling the TWL4030 Phy based USB interface in OMAP EVM?
Some hardware modifications are to be done in order to enable the TWL4030 phy based USB interface, refer to the Application Note from the section- Documentation and Software for OMAP2530 EVM which explains the same.

FAQ – Runtime Linux BSP Package
1.	What are the different 2430OSK Linux BSP Packages?
The BSP Package is offered in two categories 2430OSK Runtime Linux BSP Package 2430OSK Accelerator Linux BSP Package
2.	What is 2430OSK Runtime Linux BSP Package?
This is the package that will be bundled in the CD provided along with the 2430 OSK. These will also be pre-programmed on the 2430OSK boards in the factory. 3.	Is the source code included in the "Runtime Linux BSP Package" or is it a binary only distribution?
The Runtime BSP will have only binary files.
4.	Does the documentation include details about integrating custom interfaces to the platform such as creating BSPs?
No, the documentation does not support details about custom interface integration.
5.	What are the device-drivers supported in 2430 OSK?
The Runtime Linux BSP supports the following device drivers Stereo Audio In/Out NAND Flash memory 10/100 Ethernet Keypad I2C Frame Buffer driver for LCD Display
6.	The u-boot is giving a message "eth0: Invalid ethernet MAC address. Please set using ifconfig" on the console", what needs to be done ?
The workaround for the above problem is : Please use 'mac write' command to reprogram MAC address but have to enter MAC in reverse way. Eg: for programming MAC 00:50:c2:7e:80:7b you have to issue 'mac write' command at the u-boot prompt as OMAP2EVM # mac write 7b:80:7e:c2:50:00 OMAP2EVM # save. In order to get the existing MAC address from use 'ethaddr' environment variable and reprogram in reverse way as mentioned above. Once the above change is done, the actual released kernel(s) can be used. This issue will be corrected in the next version of the u-boot.

Known Caveats The following list is applicable to: Board revision: 2430 OSK REV B Software version: Runtime Linux BSP : 2430OSK-ITBOK-1.0 The Keypad row-column silkscreen text on the OSK main board does not match with the actual keypad matrix. Please refer section 2.4.9 of User manual for more details. “Download.exe” peripheral utility hangs sometimes while downloading the NAND images. The peripheral utility needs to be re-started. NAND driver in u-boot-1.1.4 does not support bad block management MTD NAND support and JFFS2 file system throws out error messages at run time The BSP is tested for only the given clock rate: ARM=247MHz, SDRAM=124MHz LINUX Audio Driver has noise and distortion at higher bit rates and Db levels. There is no support for Board Revision update in the U-Boot. Kernel patch and kernel build warnings are not cleaned up. Kernel booting using JFFS2 as root file system shows warning messages
