A CompactPCI (cPCI) system is a 3U or 6U Eurocard-based industrial computer, where all boards are connected via a passive PCI backplane. As the initial PCI bus based system was insufficient to cater to Embedded Applications, due to the lack of a Ruggedization path, the technology was implemented on a form factor, which would allow Eurocard based Mechanical structure with a backplane that would carry the PCI bus. This transformed the technology into one which could be implemented for Embedded Applications too.
