Mistral's soft radio system works on analog IF input and generates base band output and vice versa, supporting bandwidths up to 1 MHz. The system features ADCs, digital down converters, digital up converters and DACs that enable it to act as a soft radio. Built using two Analog Devices-ADSP 21160 DSPs as the processing units, the system also contains FPGA, SDRAM and FLASH.

The input frequency band selection, sampling rate and tuning step size are programmable through software. Once the specification is given to the system through software developed for this very purpose, it is configured for that particular range.
