CES 2020 just got over and there had been a lot of enthusiasm around newer products based on smart technologies such as AI, ML, and Machine Vision. One classic example was John Deere combining all these technologies in their latest tractors and farm equipment to help farmers improve their yield at a much larger scale. This shows these technologies are already getting adopted and percolating in the day to day lives.
According to the PwC's 2019 Internet of Things survey, manufacturers are optimistic about IoT with 93% believing its benefits exceed its risks. The report says, about 68% plan to increase their investment over the next two years in IoT and Industrial Automation technologies. An encouraging factor for Industry 4.0 is the declining Robot prices and the availability of reliable low-cost industrial Radars, sensors and IoT gateways in the market. This is complemented by the unmatched speed and high throughput of 5G combined with low latency, enabling devices and entities in the ecosystem to communicate in near real time. With advances in Artificial Intelligence and machine learning along with various radar and camera fusion technologies, industry is now ready for harnessing the potential of Industry 4.0 in a big way.
In this Infowaves, I would like to share more updates on AM65x Industrial SoM, an ideal platform for designing Industrial Automation Control and Communication Systems, based on TI’s AM6548 Processor. Currently the AM65x SOM supports Linux 4.19.38 Arago and Android 9 and soon WindRiver Linux and VxWorks. The SOM supports native protocols like CANopen, ModBus, and Protocols licensed from port GmbH such as ProfiNET and Ethernet/IP. Support for EnDAT/EQEP, CC-LinkIE TSN, EtherCAT and ProfiBUS is anticipated in couple of months. Another Key release is the 60GHz AoP RADAR Module based on IWR6843AoP ES2.0 from Texas Instruments, an Industrial RADAR module with Antenna on Package (AoP) technology.
Read a case study on designing a ‘Head-mounted Voice / Gesture Controlled Wearable Device’, a great tool for warehouse management, field service and manufacturing that enhances the efficiency of people and processes. Also featured are two demo videos on Industrial mmWave Radar that illustrate its People Counting and Patient Activity Monitoring features.
