Additional Adaptor boards are available for the 820 Development Kit for accelerated product development that exercises various interfaces via the expansion connectors.  These boards ensure easier customization and faster turnaround of the end product design.

Display:

The display adaptor uses the expansion connectors present on the development board to realize support for display over LCD and user interface over touchscreen.  Mistral provides a standard LCD interfaced to the APQ8096 over DSI and touchscreen panel interfaced over I2C with the display adaptor board.

Camera:

4 What software is provided with 820 Nano SoM

The 820 Nano SOM is programmed with Android 7 (Nougat) when it is delivered.

Customer need to register their product through our website (https://www.mistralsolutions.com/product-engineering-services/support/product-registration-2/).  Upon completion, the following are provided

  • Pre-built binary images for Linux kernel and Android 7 (Nougat)
  • Pre-built binary images for Linux kernel and Yocto 2.0
  • Source code for Linux kernel, Android 7 (Nougat), Yocto 2.0
  • Any available Software Updates
5 How will I obtain source code and built it for the 820 Development Kit?

Upon completion of the product registration (https://www.mistralsolutions.com/product-engineering-services/support/product-registration-2/), customers will be able to access Documentation, source code for Linux kernel, Android and build scripts to configure and build the sources.

All software updates, as and when available will also be accessible to customers through this portal

6 How do I enable the development platform with software I have built?

The Software User Manual provided with the 820 Development Kit has information related to

  • Setting up a build environment for Linux kernel, Android, Yocto
  • Configuring and building the sources
  • Programming the built binary images to the platform

7 Can I interface other hardware on the 820 Development Kit?

Yes, most of the primary interfaces on the Snapdragon 820 processor are exposed through the expansion connectors present on the 820 Development Kit.

Adaptor boards are available and can also be custom designed by Mistral to accommodate other hardware to the 820 Development Kit and the required drivers for them need to be developed in order to realize the required functionality.

8 What interfaces are available through expansion connectors?

9 What is the default display interface on the 820 Development kit?
The default display interface on the 820 Development Kit is HDMI.  The Carrier board has a HDMI connector through which any standard HDMI display can be used to view the Android user interface.

 

10 I don’t see a camera or LCD on the 820 Development Kit.  How can I prototype requirements that need a camera and display?

Camera is a feature that is realized using the adaptor board.  This needs to be obtained separately and does not ship with the 820 Development Kit.

When connected to the Carrier board through the custom expansion header, the camera adaptor board makes the 820 Development Kit capable of realizing camera based applications.

LCD can be realized using another custom adaptor board.  However, the 820 Development Kit supports display through HDMI by default.

11 I want to use a camera module of my choice.  How can this be done?

The camera adaptor board needs to be customized to accommodate the sensor chosen by a customer.  This will include software development to realize the functionality of the chosen sensor on the Development Kit.

The camera adaptor board is designed for quick customization and hence the turnaround time to modify the design to accommodate a different camera sensor would be short.  Mistral can provide the required customization support at an additional cost.

12 What technical support is provided by Mistral?

Up to two hours of installation support is provided through email to help customers bring up the development kit with the software programmed on the 820 Nano SOM.

13 Can the 820 Nano SoM platform be customized?

14 Which 820 processor is used on the Nano SOM?

The 820 Nano SOM is built around the Snapdragon APQ8096 System-On-Chip (SOC).

15 What types of memory is supported on the 820 Development Kit?

The 820 Nano SOM contains a 32GB UFS for storage and 4 GB LPDDR4.  In addition, the carrier board provides an SD Card connector which can provide extended storage using MMC, SD and SDXC cards
